School for the past three weeks has been a blur. All students have finally gotten there laptops. i have been going through notes with students each week as well as updating our owl information. Students this year are playing an owl game and at the end of the semester students will be getting all their pellets that they have been winning to compete in the final round. Honor's Chorus practices have begun. A letter was sent home letting parents know when practices were. Tuesday Afterschool is for any boys that want to audition, and then Thursday is for any Altos, and Friday is for any Sopranos, that are looking to Audition. A Workshop is coming up at ECU for any students that would like to go and participate to help them even more.
Clubs are starting this week. the first meeting is this Friday. I am hosting a Glee Club. Auditions for Glee Club are going to be Tuesday after school. A signup list is posted outside my door so that students can be able to signup for a time so that they do not have to just wait around. A form that is to be signed by a parent so that I know that they will be staying with me after school was also sent home with them. Students will know who make Glee Club Thursday morning.
Students are working hard on a lot of different pieces. At this time all grades have a German piece, a folk tune, and a latin / english piece. Grade levels will be getting an additional piece this week. Assignments on Edmodo will also be beginning this week. If you need help with either Powerschool, or Edmodo, please let me know.
Students will be starting to use Edmodo, Onenote, Office 365, Musescore, Adobe Reader (PDF files), as well as Word, and Powerpoint / Prezi. If any adults need help on using these different programs please ask. I'll be glad to help anyone. Mrs. Dorencamp our DLTF and coordinator with helping students with software and programs and will be talking to students about Onenote, and Office 365 in the coming weeks.
Students in Chorus have been amazing so far. There have been a few behavior issues, but mostly have been minor and most have occurred while we have been drilling. Please help your students understand how important it is to follow directions especially when we are drilling. Drilling is something new that I have started this year. My classroom is larger this year so I am able to have 3 risers up in the classroom. When the students are on the risers we drill. Students do not ask questions unless it pertains to the music at hand and most of the time, it goes as follows: They sing, I tell them how to fix it, They sing again it's fixed, and then we sing again for good measure. Students have been able to grasp this concept fast. I am so proud of the students. In three weeks time almost all students can say 70 to 100 percent of the words from our German song with a little bit of help if they start to struggle.
Grading scale as well as Grading percentages have changed this year from last year. If there are any questions don't hesitate to ask. Progress Reports are going out tomorrow. I look forward to getting them all back signed.
